Förordning 1998:944 om förbud m.m. i vissa fall i samband
The current study was designed to determine if a mixture of plastic derived endocrine disruptor compounds bisphenol-A (BPA), bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) and dibutyl phthalate (DBP) at two different doses promoted epigenetic transgenerational inheritance of adult onset disease and associated DNA methylation epimutations in sperm. Exposure to DEHP apparently occurs during the entire human life time, from different sources. Exposure may therefore be equated with persistent low dose exposure. New-borns are probably the most sensitive sub-population, exposed via many sources, and perhaps at higher levels than the adults. In 1994, a Health Canada assessment found that DEHP and another phthalate product, B79P, were harmful to human health.

Dangers of phthalates and DEHP Phthalates, a family of industrial chemicals used to soften polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic and as solvents in cosmetics and other consumer products, can damage the liver, kidneys, lungs, and reproductive system. Chemical Listed Effective October 24, 2003 as Known to the State to Cause Reproductive Toxicity: Di (2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, Amendment to Title 22, Section 12805, Specific Regulatory Levels for di (2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) A summary of the physico-chemical properties of DEHP is shown in Table 1.1. Table 1.1 Summary of physico-chemical properties Property Value Physical state Colourless oily liquid Melting point -55°C or -50°C Boiling point 230°C at 5 mm Hg 385°C at 1013 hPa Density 0.98 g/cm3 at 20°C Vapour pressure 0.000034 Pa at 20°C What is DEHP? DEHP, which is an abbreviation of di- (2-ethylhexyl)phthalate, is a manufactured chemical plasticizer that is often a component in vinyl or plastic products. DEHP is colorless and has almost no scent. Its purpose is to help soften plastics and make them more flexible.

DEHP is a colourless oily liquid. DEHP is included on a published Proposition 65 list of chemicals known to cause cancer and reproductive harm according to the state of California. The chemical’s risk for harm is so great, however, that Federal law has already banned DEHP in children’s toys as the chemical can be absorbed through the mouth and hands.

In the past, DEHP was one of the phthalates most frequently used in plastic products, but its use has decreased in recent years for a variety of reasons. DEHP is still used in various types of plastic consumer products: Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate, diethylhexyl phthalate, DEHP; dioctyl phthalate, DOP) is an organic compound with the formula C 6 H 4 (CO 2 C 8 H 17) 2.
